La Savonnerie du Midi and La Corvette celebrate 130 years of heritage

To mark its 130th anniversary, the Savonnerie du Midi launches a limited edition of its emblematic Marseille soap 'La Corvette', a tribute to the history and heritage of Savonnerie du Midi.

 

The talented Marseilles artist Stéphane Paugam, well known under the label Gravé du Sud that La Corvette has entrusted the visuals for the brand's 130th anniversary to Stéphane Paugam, a talented artist from Marseilles, well known for his Gravé du Sud label. It features Marseilles celebrating this happy anniversary against a background of blue, the preferred color of the artist, Marseilles and the Corvette.

 

All our know-how is to be found in this authentic Marseille soap, which comes in its most traditional form, that of a 300-gram cube. In addition to the health benefits that have put it in the spotlight, this soap is biodegradable, non-polluting and very gentle on the environment. Based on olive oils, with no preservatives, colorants or fragrances, it is hypoallergenic and therefore suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive. It can be used for personal hygiene as well as for linen and home care.

 

Founded in 1894, Savonnerie du Midi was originally based in Marseille's 14th arrondissement. It produced 3 emblematic brands of soap: L'Aubépine, L'Aigle Blanc and La Corvette, a brand it has marketed since its origins, making it the oldest commercial brand of Savon de Marseille still in operation.

In 2011, the Savonnerie du Midi, along with the 3 other historic soap manufacturers in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, created the Union des Professionnels du Savon Marseille (UPSM), the Union des Professionnels du Savon de Marseille (UPSM)with the aim of defending and promoting the ancestral Marseille soap-making process.

 

 

 

In 2018, the Savonnerie du Midi created the Marseille Soap Museum and opens a factory store. In 2020, the Savonnerie du Midi receives the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, an award that recognizes more than a century of history, roots in Provence, and know-how of excellence.

 

 

In 2022, the Savonnerie du Midi moved to Marseille's Vieux-Port, Place aux Huilesto offer the entire La Corvette range to the general public, in addition to its factory outlet.
