Why use Marseille soap ?

Renowned for its effectiveness and simplicity, the Marseille soap is the result of a manufacturing process whose method has not changed since its creation. Vegetable oil, salt and soda are the only ingredients used in the formulation of real Marseille soap, which makes it a natural, simple and multipurpose ingredient. Its composition, with a minimum of 72% of vegetable oilsmakes it a pleasant product for the skin, so it is regularly used as soap for the body as well as for the face, but also in shampoo because it respects the scalp. Other uses are lent to it, in all the rooms of the house, from the floor to the ceiling, as well as for the linen. Marseille soap is therefore an obvious choice for those who want to make their own hygiene products, especially shower gel.

To make your shower gel with Marseille soap, you will need :

  • 30 g of Marseille soap shavings
  • 150 ml of hot water
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (olive oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil)
  • 2 teaspoons of cosgard (for a better conservation of your product)
  • Optional: 5 drops of essential oil (lavender, calendula macerate, ylang-ylang, etc.)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin to maintain the skin's natural moisture
  1. Start by dissolving the Marseille soap shavings in hot water and stir until you get a homogeneous and slightly thick liquid. To obtain shavings, you can buy them as they are but you can also grate directly a cube of Marseille soap. You can pour half of the water on the shavings at first and adjust the quantity of water according to the texture of your mixture. You can also work the other way around and pour the shavings into a pan of water on the stove. Once the chips have dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and continue to stir for a few minutes to ensure that the mixture is smooth as it cools.
  2. Once the mixture has cooled, pour the honey andvegetable oil into the soap and stir to combine the ingredients as best as possible.
  3. Add the cosgard and a few drops ofessential oils to your liking to complete your mixture with a delicious scent.
  4. Using a funnel, pour your preparation into a container (a glass bottle with a pump or an old bottle of shower gel previously washed).
  5. Shake your preparation vigorously before each use and use it as you would your usual shower gel.
