Making your own ecological washing powder with Marseille soap shavings

Marseille soap is an economical and ecological alternative, 100% natural, to make your own laundry and to take care of your family's clothes. Washing with Marseille soap laundry detergent can effectively wash all textiles, even the most delicate. The hypoallergenic formulation of Marseille soap is particularly recommended for washing the clothes of babies and people with sensitive skin.

1. Ingredients needed for 2 litres of detergent:

  • 60g of shavings of Marseille soap (the equivalent of 4 tablespoons)
  • 1L hot water
  • 1L cold water
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 20 drops of essential oils of your choice

2. Equipment :

  • 1 x 2L recovery canister
  • A kettle or saucepan
  • 1 cheese grater if you grate your own Marseille soap

3. Recipe:

  • Pour 60g of Marseille Soap shavings into a collection can.
  • Heat 1L of water and pour the boiling water into the canister to dilute the chips.
  • Shake until the soap flakes are well diluted.
  • Leave to stand for 24 hours. The lye will become compact, which is normal!
  • Add 1L of cold water and mix the resulting lye again to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
  • To increase the effectiveness of the detergent and to soften the laundry you can add 2 tablespoons of baking soda.
  • To perfume the resulting detergent, add a few drops of essential oils.

4. Use :

Pour your homemade Marseille soap detergent directly into the drawer of the washing machine or into a measuring cap.

The dose is standard: one measuring cap for one machine.
